Orlando, FL asked in Health Care Law and Medical Malpractice for Florida

Q: Legs are in pain after 3 days in the hospital and no medicine or treatment to prevent blood clots. Do I have a case?

I we not given anything to help prevent my legs from getting blood clots after spending 3 days in the hospital. I'm sure I don't have any blood clots but my legs are in large amounts of pain due to this because they assumed it would be ok since I had just barley under a normal platelet count in my blood. Should I consult a local attorney to help with this because it hurts to walk and I have been hospitalized like this for the same duration and never had any pain because they always helped prevent my legs from getting clots.

A: First you should see a doctor about the pain to determine its cause. If it's determined that the problem would have been preventable, then you should consult with an attorney.

A: Never hurts to get a free consult however 1)wait until you get a prognosis--until you know what's causing the pain you/your doctors can't say if it's related. Many things do happen coincidentally 2)understand that you can only bring a case for what did happen, not what could have happened 3)understand that medical cases are very expensive, and complicated, so an attorney may not bring one unless the fallout from the carelessness is likely to motivate a jury to award more than the costs of a malpractice case.
