A: If you are in fact an independent contractor, then yes, they could do that as you are not their employee. However, you may not be an independent contractor and instead should be classified as an employee. If you were an employee, then you would have to be paid for those hours, in addition to a lot of other bad things for your employer. I would suggest contacting an employment law attorney to go over some facts to see if you are or are not an employee.
