Q: how much will it cost for 2nd offense for going 60 in a 40mph speed limit?
First offense i had a picture for over speeding before like 4 months ago, and today i got pulled over for going 60 in a 40mph speed limit and i guess i consider this as my 2nd offense. The officer gave me a ticket and i should go to the court after a month. How much will it cost for this? like in what range. I live in illinois
A:
Hello Asker,
Unfortunately, I cannot answer this question. It is far too broad.
Fines, fees, and costs vary wildly by county and occasionally by courtroom within counties. If you are going to court, on the absolute low end, I cannot see it being less than $200 in some of the cheaper parts of Will County. On the opposite end of the spectrum, fines and costs up to $400 are not unheard of in Lake and McHenry Counties only a few dozen miles away. The only consistency can be found in Cook County of all places where court costs for supervision on petty offenses are fixed at $214 for most moving violations and $179 for conviction. These can also come with a fine that ranges generally from $0-100 though in most cases it tends to be on the $0-5 range. For a second violation, it would probably be higher.
Sadly, that is all the accuracy I can offer with such a broadly worded question.
I hope that helps and we wish you all the best. Let us know if you have any additional questions.
Sincerely,
Jason A. Wilkins
