A: Morally more you than her--she's doing you a favor, not her fault if dog gets out and you two want to sneer at her latch--you didn't fix it for her did you?

As the person in charge of the dog she is responsible for securing it. If you get too heavy about it that'll be the last time she does and you will be periodically reminded. I would suggest that you notify your homeowners to protect yourself, if they aren't covering it tell her to report it to hers, that way she is protected, and that you'll cover any increase in rates if they happen as she was doing y'all a favor (as you may know if you checked kennel/vet prices first).

A: Your mother-in-law's homeowner's police should cover it. Check with her insurance agent.
