Q: I bought a vehicle with brakes that didn't work - a person was injured.

Am I on the hook for anything if I had no idea there was an issue?

A: The answer to your question depends on very specific facts that are not provided here, such as when you first notice the brakes did not work properly. I would recommend organizing all information relevant to this situation, including all of your recent auto repair bills, and consulting with an attorney individually. A knowledgeable attorney will review the details of your situation, and advise you as to the best course of action moving forward.

A: First, make sure it got on your insurance, pay for it. Most policies a car is added automatically if you notify. Hopefully you notify promptly.

Second, unless you should have known from your driving, don't know that you are but you haven't said how the wreck happened. if you were hurt, suggest you contact a member of the Illinois assn for justice--they give free consults.
