Q: Where on the internet can I download the proper forms for General POA, Durable POA, Living Will, and Medical POA?
My wife and I are interested in the POA's and Living Wills for ourselves.
A:
All of the documents that you mentioned are available from multiple sources, the issue is what you get.
(1) Free on the internet-various sites have free forms. They can be ok, but are non-specific and can omit/limit issues you care about.
(2) Pay sites (not law firms). Various sites have plans that allow discounted wills, etc. Depending on pricing you get a standard will with some (read: minor) personalization with an attorney. Prices range from $60 to $200 (again you get what you pay for...).
(3) Contacting an attorney directly. Any lawyer can draft the documents that you mentioned. The main advantage of choosing an attorney directly is that you actually meet with an attorney who listens to your needs and can provide suggestions. Prices vary widely between attorneys and law firms; some attorneys offer an "estate package" around $150 to $500. Again, call around to see prices and what the attorney is offering.
Lastly, if you plan on establishing trusts or other complex property shifting devices expect to pay more and you will likely need to contact an attorney directly (creating trusts is not really a DIY thing for most non-attorneys).
