Q: Is it possible for an F1 status to apply for a travel document I 131 in an emergency situation?

Hello. I am in nyc holding F1 status since Mars 2016 . On oct 15 2016 I was walking in the cross walk with a green light and a driver made a right turn did not stop, he hit me by his car. I did 2 surgeries open tib fib fracture in my left leg.I have been in the hospital for 38 days. I need 20 weeks for my bones to heal and I need my wife’s assistant, she is in Egypt, she tried to get B2 emmergency visa to assist me but they refused. Can I apply for a travel document-form I 131 to stay with my family'so family in egypt for a while then I come back once my bones is healing, I could walk and could continue my study??

A: Yes. What you will probably need to do is re apply for a new visa when you are ready to return. It should not be a problem based on the circumstances.
