Q: My question is Why should I pay child support on my daughter If I'm not going to get to see her?
My ex's new husband just got a job in Oklahoma which is over 2000 miles away. Why should I be paying 450 a month for a child I will not be able to afford to see? I cant afford plane tickets back and forth. Not to mention gas rent a car and a hotel If I have to go there.
A:
Child support is your obligation to support your children. It isn't purchasing time with them. It is your legal obligation to support the children you created imposed on you by the law. So Parenting time (visitation) is a completely separate issue.
There is however the possibility of getting your child support modified to reflect the cost of travel for your child to come visit you now that they live 2000 miles away. So your solution is to seek a child support modification so you can adjust your child support downward to allow for funds to pay for parenting time related travel. Alternatively you can move to modify the parenting time and have your ex be required to pay the transportation costs.
