Asked in Divorce for Florida

Q: I live in Ecuador and wish to marry a Ecuadorian woman. I divorced 30 years ago in FL and need proof documents.

Is there a basic US data base for these transactions, or is it state based? If I have no recall of date or place because my ex filed the divorce, how can I obtain a proof document? Thank you!

A: It would be state-based. The clerk of court in the county (most states; a few states don't have counties) where the divorce occurred should have the record. If you don't know where (state and county) your ex-spouse filed, you could check with the department of vital statistics in the state were you believe the divorce occurred.

A: Which county in Florida? It is possible to search records in the county of the divorce, through archives. It can be searched through the names of the parties.
