A: Hello Omar,

Ordinarily, traffic violations stay on one's record for many years. In practice, I simply tell people to expect them to never disappear because my experience suggests they don't. I've heard of tickets being removed after 8 years or so but I've also seen tickets from the 70's nearly 40 years after issuance. Since 5 years after an insurance ticket is an important legal distinction for supervision eligibility, I would anticipate it to, at a bare minimum, last at least 5 years. Similarly, no license tickets are very unlikely to fall off your record.

As for expunging these offenses, my understanding was that in 2010 the law relating to expungements was changed to make expunging traffic violations functionally impossible in most settings.

Lastly, with regards to these tickets, it would be advisable that you speak to a lawyer. These violations are ones that can drastically affect your driving privileges and result in a suspension of your driving privileges if not handled correctly.

Hope that helps and let me know if you have any questions!

Sincerely,

Jason A. Wilkins
