Q: 81 in a 55 in Macoupin County. Ticket says no court required
I recieved a citation for driving 81 in 55 mph zone in Macoupin County. The ticket says no court required but says for offenses 20-25 over I would owe $140. What do I owe since technically I was 26 over?
A:
Hello Asker,
You should expect to go to court. You should contact the Macoupin County Circuit Court Clerk and request information about when your court date is. This is because a court date is required for all instances of misdemeanor speeding (26 or more mph over the limit). It is advised that you seek representation to help prevent this ticket from appearing on your record or affecting your insurance rates.
Our recommendation would be to reach out to attorneys in the area surrounding that county and in that county so that they might advise based upon their experience with that courthouse.
I do not want to mislead you as we do not frequent that courthouse. As such, I cannot suggest any further guidance other than to seek consultation with an attorney familiar with that courthouse and to be prepared to go to court and find out when that court date is (regardless of what the ticket or the officer says). This will prevent missing court and having a warrant for your arrest.
Hope that helps and let us know if you have any additional questions.
Sincerely,
Jason A. Wilkins
