Aurora, CO asked in Family Law and Juvenile Law for Colorado

Q: What should I do in this situation?

Alright so this is sort of complicated so bear with me here. About a year ago, I was in a relationship with someone older than me, my parents found out and obviously punishments ensued. They opened up a police case but nothing ever came of it because the guy didn't live in the US. They took away a lot of stuff and whatnot. But this year I decided(stupidly) to acquire a phone without their knowledge. They ended up finding the phone and when I refused to give them the passcode, they did a lot of things. I no longer have a comforter on my bed, pillows, majority of clothing has been taken away, shoes, art stuff, and essentially everything in my bedroom. The only things I have left are some cruddy shoes, a small amount of clothes, a bed, a desk and books. The only thing I'm allowed to eat now is cheerios for breakfast, ramen and canned soup for dinners. I had a job over the summer, and they refuse to let me have any of the money I made from it or to get a job, they took my ID away.

A: You can contact CPS or a teacher/school administrator. At issue here is whether a minimum standard of care is being provided. This standard is very low, so there may not be a D&N (dependency and neglect) matter here, but this is something more for CPS to determine. In other words, there is a fine line between unreasonably strict parenting (where is undeniably the case) and child abuse.
