A: It is very unlikely you will find a pro bono lawyer. Lawyer's in Oregon have to pay $3,500 in malpractice insurance and $1000.00 in fees just to keep their doors open in addition to any office overhead and staff salaries and their personal living expenses. Very few family law lawyers make enough money to be able to afford to keep their doors open and do pro bono work. That said, there are a few lawyers that volunteer through the Oregon State Bar's modest means program. So you can call the Oregon State Bar - 503-620-0222. (If your matter involves children's services and the juvenile court, you should be entitled to a court appointed attorney.) You can also check with legal aid in your area but most legal aid programs are underfunded so they can only take a limited number of cases. You can always pay a lawyer for general advice and file your own pleadings with the court. That is cheaper then hiring a lawyer to represent you. Good luck
