Q: Does the child support percent age increase if the noncustodial parent owes back child support?

A: The amount of "current child support" is not affected at all because there is back child support owed. However, if there is back child support owed, the payor will likely not only have to pay the "current" monthly amount, but will also have to pay off on the back support as well. For example if current monthly support is $200 and there is $2000 owed in back support, a court might say the payor will pay $200 each month, plus $50 per month towards the back support. Thus, the monthly payment would be $250, which has nothing to do with increasing actual, current child support.
