Monticello, IL asked in Traffic Tickets for Illinois

Q: Clean record. First mechanical violation. Can I go take traffic safety course to keep my employer from seeing this?

I mean equipment violation. Texting. I do not hold a commercial license but my record is checked because I drive a company car. Would traffic school keep it off my record if I had a clean record prior to violation?

A: Mechanical Violation?

Need more information on the violation.

A: Hello Asker,

Generally speaking mechanical and equipment violations are less likely to appear on your driving record. Because of the way your question is phrased, I'm guessing you hold a commercial driver's license. As a result, you may want to reach out to an attorney to ask them if the specific offense you have been charged with is one of these common equipment violations which are unlikely to appear on your driving record. This is important because some tickets such as head and tail light tickets which appear on their face to be equipment violations are treated like moving violations. A skilled traffic attorney can help to suss out whether your ticket is the kind that you don't need to worry about or the kind that can affect your standing with your employer.

I hope that helps and let us know if you have any additional questions!

Sincerely,

Jason A. Wilkins
