Q: I was a cosigner on my dad's bank account. He died, his name has been removed. Can I share info with beneficiaries?
Is this part of the assets or separate, because it is in my name?
A: With some exceptions and depending on the beneficiary rights to the account, all surviving co-owners should be the exclusive owners of the account. If your father's estate is headed for probate, it is prudent to wait to withdraw sums from the account until all parties are notified (and no challenge occurs). Regardless, you should notify the personal representative (aka executor) of the estate (when an appointment occurs) of the account.
