Q: Do I actually have to give the officer my license or can I simply display it to the officer so that he make get my inffo
A: Complying with an officer's request is almost always the best response. Your question does not explain why you are reluctant to allow the officer to take possession of the license - again, if he is going to write a ticket/citation, he will want the license to get i.d. information and after completing the ticket, the license will be returned to you. Why risk pissing off the officer ( and possible additional charges for "resisting" or obstructing)? As a final suggestion, you might try making 5/6 photocopies of your license and keeping them in your vehicle for whatever reason you want to avoid turning over your license ( give the office the copy when he asks for the license- but be prepared to display the original so he can confirm the copy is accurate). I still say just give him the license is the best thing to do.
