Foley, AL asked in DUI / DWI for Georgia

Q: How do I get a mandatory interlocking device required through the state of Georgia waived?

I was convicted of 3 dui's in Georgia in 2015, on June 3rd I'll be eligible to reinstate my driver's license in Georgia. I don't live in Georgia! I currently reside in Alabama. I need to legally reinstate through Georgia to obtain an Alabama license. The Georgia DMV states that I can't have the device installed in Alabama, and monitored here. They say I have to do it in Georgia, which would entail me driving to Georgia at least every month to get the machine recalibrated. They suggested I contact the court that sentenced me and get it waived. The court suggested I contact the lawyer who represented me, which I did, he seems confused! This isn't a term of my probation or sentence, this is a term of the Georgia DMV. Does anyone understand my question? Georgia says I can do my evaluation and risk reduction here, but can not do the interlocking device here. It's either through Georgia or it's waived! What all does this entail? is this something simple or is it another legal proceeding?

A: Your best bet is to hire a DUI specialist for this question. Getting a waiver requires the person to have completed all conditions EXCEPT interlock, and then have waited the requisite time for reinstatement.
