Q: Divorce with no marital assets

I have been separated from my wife since October of 2016 and have been put through the ringer with numerous restraining orders and she is attempting to get me to violate the current order by driving past my home and threating to cause problems with my job. I need any advice on how to file the divorce papers in caddo parish since she has repeatedly said that she will not file unless I pay her every penny she wants plus half of the equipment I use on the job that belong to my boss, not me. I don't know which avenue to take to make it so her debts before and during the marriage are the responsibility of the owner of said debt. Please help

A: Sounds like you're asking about two different issues:

Regarding the divorce, if the only issue is a divorce without dealing with any ancillary issues (i.e. custody, support, or community property), many attorneys will handle this for a low fee + court costs. Give me a call and I'll be happy to discuss further.

Regarding the debt, any debt incurred during the marriage by either party is assumed to be community. There are some limited exceptions, which I will not go into here. Any debt owed by either party before the marriage, they are the separate property of the person who incurred the debt.
