Buffalo Grove, IL asked in Traffic Tickets for Illinois

Q: How do I plead in court for a failure to yield ticket if I want supervision in IL? My driving record is clean.

Left turn arrow just went out as I turned. I also got no insurance ticket because I didn't have current card in my car. I AM covered and got a copy from my insurance agent for court. Do you know how much the fine is for my moving violation?

A: The moving violation is a petty offense and the maximum fine is $1000. From my experience, prosecutors will ask for $120 fine with conviction. If you want court supervision, let the prosecutor in court know. He or she may agree to it on the spot. I think you can also call the prosecutor's office to see if they will extend that kind of offer. Every state's attorney's office handles traffic tickets difficulty but some of them are willing to meet with you ahead of time or right before court starts to work out a supervision deal.

A: Since you have the No Insurance ticket your tickets should have been marked Court Appearance Required. Bring the proof of insurance with you and that ticket will be dismissed. As to the Failure to Yield Ticket, I always suggest a plea of not guilty and to request a trial date because if the other driver does not show up to court on the trial date that ticket is likely to be dismissed as well. I also always advise that you have an experienced attorney with you whenever you have to appear in court no matter how simple things may seem.
