Q: I have a week to week rental lease in a shared housing im paid up till July 29th they gave me verbal notice today
My rent is not due till July 29. They called me today and said I have to be out on the 29th or they will call the police and have me put out. They said they sold the place
A:
They cannot just call the police to get you out. They have to evict you if you do not leave. The police do not throw out tenants on the street without a court order to do so.
However, since your lease is week to week they can choose not to renew. Proper notice if the lease is month to month or less than that is one time period of rent, in this case, one week's notice. If they want you out by the 29th they should have informed you on the 22nd.
Tender your rent on July 29th like you usually would. If they deposit it you are good for another week. If not, you should already be looking for another place to live regardless. Just remember, they cannot remove you without an eviction order and in order to get that you would have to be served by the court and there would be a hearing.
