Oregon, IL asked in Traffic Tickets for Illinois

Q: I'm being of convicted of improper use of resistance sticker in Illinois. I'm obviously not guilty and furious! See more

My wife was pulled over and the cop said our registration was expired and fraudulent because someone else's sticker was on our plate! The car belongs to my dad officially because we haven't fully transferred the title over yet, he gave it to us last year. So our plates were expired from 11/16 but it had someone else's sticker on it. Saying it expired in 3/18, now a month after our sticker went up my dad said something to us about getting the new sticker and one day this sticker was on there so I assumed he put it on. Now months later we're getting charged with fraud because I believe kids took someone else's sticker and put it on mine (I live in apartments where I park outside all day, i work at a public school and umpire baseball games at multiple parks) so my wife and I are freaking out right now. We're buying the correct registration as soon as possible and pleading not guilty because it wasn't us and they have no proof. My question is do you think they will dismiss this?

A: You need an explanation of what happened.

Since stickers cost money, it is not believable that it was a prank.

A: They are not likely going to dismiss this type of charge. Stickers come on a paper registration which you should have asked for from your father. Your story is likely not going to fly in court. I strongly suggest you hire an experienced criminal defense attorney to assist you with this matter.
