A: Hello Asker,

Unfortunately, the answer is hard to say. It truly depends on the county, your age, the offense type, and your driving history. In general, the shortest supervision periods tend to be 60-120 days with 90-120 being the norm for a shorter supervision period. Medium range supervisions tend to be around 6 months and longer supervisions tend to be 12 months. Technically, supervision lasts between 1-24 months. In practice, supervisions over 12 months are rare and reserved for serious problem drivers or drivers who are sentenced to significant community service terms (most common with offenses related to license issues).

Generally speaking, non-misdemeanor traffic offenses tend to be 1-6 months supervision while misdemeanor offenses tend to be 6-24 months with 12 months being most common. As for age, drivers 21 or older tend to get shorter supervision than those under 21 because only drivers under 21 are required to do traffic school for supervision.

Like I said, all this varies from county to county. A local attorney can advise you further.

Hope that helps and let us know if you have any additional questions!

Sincerely,

Jason A. Wilkins
