Plymouth, MN asked in Traffic Tickets for Minnesota

Q: I recieved a citation of 70 in a 55. Is there a way to keep this from affecting my license record and insurance?

I was going 64 when pulled over. Statute was 169.14.2a3, for passing. I thought I was in a 70 zone, but apparently I was just short of it as the officer pointed out to me and that I was still in a 55 zone. Some ways back was a construction zone which is 55, but because of it there was a barricade splitting the highway into 2 sections. Out of the zone to where I was pulled over there were no posted speed limit signs. I travel this highway to work often, so I knew the 70 zone was at that area, I was just off by a bit due to no visible speed limit signs and happen to pass an officer on his left. I was on the far left lane. This was I-94 heading East and I believed I was pulled over right around the 694/494 overpass. We ended up past the merging lane of 694/494 to I-94 East where the 70mph sign was visible about block away and the Inwood/Radio drive exit opening up shortly afterwards. I told the officer we were in a 70 zone and I was driving 64. I'm not entirely sure how I got 70 in a 55.

It will help if you have a clean driving record for the prior three to five years. You may be able to get a prosecutor to offer you an outcome that will allow you to keep it off your record with the payment of costs and no similar violations for the following (or similar).

Sometimes it's worth hiring a lawyer to help you accomplish. I'm happy to discuss this by phone further.
