Q: Can I request the father of my child's girlfriend not be allowed to have solo time with my son?
I have had very few interactions with the girlfriend of my sons father but none have been a very positive experience.
The first interaction I had was her banging on my sons dads door in the middle of the night until he answered, once he opened the door she burst in and yanked a giant tube tv out of the wall (chords included) and proceeded to carry the tv out into the driveway and throw it on the pavement. This occurred before the birth of our child.
The second was through a mutual friend who made a comment on social media about our son being 6 months old and the girlfriend proceeded to make harassing comments even after the mutual friend attempted to end the conversation.
She has refused to meet me and has still not met our son (who is 7 months old). I have made it very clear I am uncomfortable with her around our son, because of the violent and aggressive behavior she has shown, and that I would like to get to know her better but they constantly cancel or no show. What can I do?
A: You do have the right to ask the court to enter orders prohibiting the father from allowing her to be alone with your son. You will need to be able to show the court why such an order is needed. Also, keep in mind that the court has jurisdiction over the father, but not the girlfriend. As such, orders would be directed towards things he can or cannot do, not her.
