Kalamazoo, MI asked in Employment Law for Michigan

Q: Can a company make a policy so a different employee will receive a shift transfer, after offering it to another employee

My husband was offered a day shift, because the woman ahead of him (seniority based) had changed crews in the same shift. She went to a Thursday-sunday crew, from a friday-monday crew. Now the manager is trying to get the company to agree that changing crews in the same shift will not count as a shift change (which makes her have to wait 6 months to transfer). But this is all after my husband was offered and accepted the shift change. The company is located in Allegan Michigan.

A: This question would be more appropriate to a union representative, if a union is involved. It would come down to what the agreement with the labor union says about things like this.

If there is no union, and nothing established in an employee manual or policy of some sort, I'm not sure what if anything can be done.
