Bolingbrook, IL asked in Traffic Tickets for Illinois

Q: Would it benefit me at all to hire an attorney for a speeding ticket in a school zone I received today?

I’ve never had any violations or tickets before and would like to try to do anything I can to keep a clean record. I thought the sign said when children were present and I did not see any children. Regardless, if there is any chance of keeping a clean record, I’d take the advice. The ticket was in Bolingbrook Illinois.

A: I would highly recommend you hire an experienced attorney right away. You are not eligible for Court Supervision as the ticket is currently charged. An experienced attorney will be able to assist you with this matter.

A: Hello asker,

As Mr. Ooink pointed out, the offense as it is currently charged is not supervision eligible. If you were to attend court on your own, if found guilty, the best you could hope for would be a conviction. This would likely cause your insurance rates to go up and it could affect your driving privileges if you've had other moving violations recently. Because it is a school zone ticket, court appearance is required. Fortunately, it appears that this is not a misdemeanor speeding offense. This means that there is a good chance an attorney could appear for you on your behalf. This would not only increase your chances of keeping it off of your public insurance records but also allow you to avoid the inconvenience of taking time off work to be in court. It is for this convenience and the unlikelihood that you will be granted Court supervision that I feel you would be best served seeking representation.

Let us know if you have any additional questions or if you would like further clarification.

Sincerely,

Jason A Wilkins
