Culleoka, TN asked in Child Custody for Tennessee

Q: Can my child’sfather keep my daughter from me during a visitation that we verbally agreed upon w/ no custodial rights?

I have full custody, she is 1 year old and at her grandparents house with him, they are controlling the household . And we are going through court - he took me for child visitation. I called the police they came to his home with me and said he does not have to give her to me until our agreed day and time - Monday at 2pm. They said they can’t force him to bring her to me after Monday either. I’m confused and upset. I told him if he didn’t follow my guidelines then I’d come pick her up and call the police. The police did not allow me to get my daughter. He has no rights. He’s on child support. He is not on the birth certificate , but he is paternity tested. I just feel like something went wrong here

A: The police should have helped you get your daughter, in my opinion. They don't like to get in the middle of custody issues though. You need an attorney to file in court and establish a parenting plan. If he violated the order, then he could be held in contempt. You need an attorney to look at all of the facts and help you evaluate your options. He may also have committed custodial interference.
