New Prague, MN asked in Traffic Tickets for Minnesota

Q: I was pulled over for speeding 70 in a 55, however cruise was on 59. Cop asked me to get it checked and gave a warning

The warning was for not having my updated insurance card on my person and to get my speedometer checked. However, today I received a final notice that a speeding ticket was due, but the citation I was given never mentioned a speeding fine, or a court date. I don't have the citation because it was just a warning, so I tossed it. How can I contest the speeding ticket, and is it possible to pull the original documentation in court showing that it was just a warning?

A: It's difficult to piece together what happened from this description. But it's easy to know how to contest a speeding ticket. Ask court administration for a first appearance court date. Most people want to keep their drivers license record clean. Admitting 59 in a 55 mph zone would still equal guilty of speeding, but for a non-commercial driver who is a Minnesota licensed driver it should also qualify as a "Dimler Speed." If you have a clean record for the past 3 to 5 years, you might try talking to the prosecutor yourself about an outcome to keep your DL record clean. If not, you might want a lawyer's help.
