East Orange, NJ asked in Criminal Law and Domestic Violence for Georgia

Q: Is there a way to get a first offense misdemeanor removed from your record? I have no history of violence or crime?

I was charged with simple battery for attempting to grab my wife's cell phone out of her hand. She claimed I twisted her arm while doing so. I have no history of any kind of violent behavior and have never been in trouble with the law. I was cooperative with the arrest and was not disruptive in any means. I have not gone to trial yet but can not afford an attorney. What are my options to try to have charge dismissed?

A: You need to borrow money to hire an attorney or use the public defender's office. Doing it yourself is not a good idea.
