Q: If you file for bankruptcy is it public knowledge?
A: The bankruptcy filing is a public record and persons may review the case documents you file with the court. There are limited privacy rules that protect the social security number, names of your children and things like that. As far as who and how much you owe and your assets and income, this is all available to anyone who wishes to see it.
