Alpharetta, GA asked in Family Law, Adoption and Child Custody for Georgia

Q: Wondering if my husband can legitimize my daughter. She's not his. No support 8 years from ncp. Adoption cost too much.

Would it be illegal to try and get her legitimized by him. Instead of going through an adoption lawyer. I was quoted 3500. Don't have that kind of money right now. There was a DNA test done on the ncp. But he's never been in her life or paid child support.

A: Nope, adoption is the only option. Shop around. You may find an attorney that doesn't charge as much.

A: $3500 is a bargain for an adoption. I would charge at least 3 times that. It would be illegal to file legitimation, as it is only for biological fathers.
