Tampa, FL asked in Traffic Tickets for Illinois

Q: What would the outcome be for a first-time speeding ticket offense for a Florida resident driving in Illinois?

My daughter (21) was driving from St.Louis returning to college in Illinois and got a speeding ticket in Fayette County. She said her cruise control was set at 79 - thinking the speed limit was 75. She was pulled over by a police officer and informed that the speed limit was 70 and that he clocked her at 83. Would we be able to fight this and would she have to appear in court in Fayette County? Or do we just pay it and try to take a traffic course to make sure there are no points on her license. I really don't want the insurance to go up. In Florida, with no violations on a record it's common to plead no contest and pay court costs with no points getting assessed (adjudication withheld), but I don't know what the court does in Illinois typically. Please help - not sure what to do?

A: Call the State’s atty office in Fayette County. Tell them you live out of state and want supervision (that makes it a non conviction that won’t cause points). It will cost around $500. They can make it happen without an appearance.
