Palmetto, FL asked in Personal Injury and Animal / Dog Law for Florida

Q: Is the Vet partially liable or negligent? Did they meet the standard of care?

We took my 3 lg, 2y/o dogs (no aggressive hx) to the vet. We always go straight to a room or offer to wait in the car. Checked in & was told they had an emerg. we’d be in a room in 10-15 mins. Offered to wait in the car, but they said it wouldn’t be long so waited outside maybe 6ft from the receptionist window. At no point did they update us. About 45 mins later, after greeting many ppl/dogs my female unfortunately went after a sm. dog leaving the vet. It was horrific. And worse vet staff showed no training in assisting the situation. Basically we said we’d pay as the other dogs owners obv. shouldn’t be charged. Their dog was then sent to an ER Vet (we found out later) & incurred 11K (plus $1,300 at our vet), and sadly passed 2 days later. Also, my husband & 2 others were bitten by the other dog when trying to stop the fight. Now my Vet is harassing us for their payment, but I feel they may be partially liable for all costs d/t negligence of staff. Home Ins won’t cover. Please help!
