Q: How can I get custody of my niece from my parents(her grandparents)?
My parents have custody of my 7 year old niece, but it's becoming more and more apparent that they are not fit to take care of her anymore. My mom's mental and physical health is not good. My dad has a very heated temper. They constantly fight with each other and everyone else around. There is definite emotional abuse and I just feel like I should take over. I have no children of my own but I make amazing money and I can provide for her.
A: You can file for custody of her in juvenile court. I highly recommend that you contact an attorney who is familiar with juvenile court. If you live out of state, there are some hoops that you may need to jump through.
