A: The outcome of your case depends on:

1. Your age

2. Your criminal history

3. Which court your case is being prosecuted in

4. The type and amount of controlled substance

5. The skill and experience of your attorney

You will need an experienced criminal defense attorney to represent you if you want to avoid having 2 drug convictions on your criminal record. Your attorney may be able to get your charges reduced to a less serious offense, such as "Littering" or completely dismissed. The outcome depends on the factors listed above.

If you were charged in state court (circuit court) and you can't afford to hire a private attorney, you can contact the public defender's office in the county where you were charged and fill out an application to get a public defender to represent you.

If you want to hire a private criminal defense attorney but you need more time to find one, you can go to court on your court date and ask the judge for a continuance of the court date.
