Marietta, GA asked in Child Custody for Georgia

Q: I gave custody to my mom because I didn't want my son how can i get him back. He is only 3 months old.

When I had him 11-2-17 I didn't want him when he was 5 days old I gave guardianship to my mom. When he was 17 days old I walked out and left him didn't call to check on him or anything. I started failing my drug test for drug court. No matter how much my mom Called and begged me to come home I would always say tomorrow I had just met a guy I wanted to spend time with. I went home spent the night and left again a week later I went home to spend the night my mom said defax said I couldn't stay. 5 days later I was back in jail and have been here since 11-5-17. I'm going to rehab. But I told my case manager and defax worker I didn't want to be his mom. 1-15-18 I gave full custody to my mom. Can I get him back?

A: It sounds like you have a long road to get your child back. You need to go to rehab, stay clean and pass drug tests before DFCS would consider allowing you to have time with the child, let alone custody. Focus on your recovery, then hire a good attorney to help you.

A: Take care of yourself first, then try to get your child back. Your ability to get the child back depends on the order giving your mother custody. If DFCS is involved, it may be a long road to get him back, if at all. Talk to a local attorney about your options and bring a copy of the order granting your mother custody.
