Littleton, CO asked in Car Accidents for Colorado

Q: Mtn car accident. Icy, slid off road. Not speeding. $100 ticket for “drove vehicle improperly on mtn hwy” contest??

I was driving 15 mph in a 35 limit. Very icy roads. Once I started sliding I could not stop and slid off the road, 30 feet downhill into trees. Got a tow and the state patrol helped direct traffic. Afterwords he presented me with a $113.50 ticket for “drove vehicle improperly on mountain highway.” I was following all laws and did everything I could to not crash. I don’t feel it’s fair to pay over $100 for driving to the best of my ability and crashing due to icy conditions on a pass with no gravel or salt! Should I contest this? Do I have a chance of winning? I do not want to pay this fine. I had one passenger in the vehicle who witnessed the entire event, that we did everything we could to prevent an accident. Seltbelts worn, 4wd engaged, no injuries or damage to property other than my vehicle.

A: Why not? Worst that happens is judge tell you to pay it. You were slowed down--any slower you wouldn't have control on the vehicle.
