Q: How do i get custody of my daughter?
My daughter is 5 her mother refused to put me on the birth certificate but she does have my last name. Her grandma has been raising her her whole life. I am allowed to see her but not as often as I'd like her mother got 10 years in prison. The grandma is a meth addict and smoked in front of her but the great grandma who is 80 has temp custody and is drug free. She doesn't really live at the great grandma's. What can I do to get my daughter. I'm in Missouri
A: You will need to seek a Paternity Action to have your paternal rights declared in court. Unwed fathers do not have rights to their children until a court makes determines there is a father-child relationship in existence and assigns rights to the natural father. Contact a family attorney close to you or the child, about starting a paternity action.
