Q: Can I avoid some traffic tickets if I derent know I was revoked?
I was illegal back in 2014 and before then all tho way to 2011 I had traffic tickets driving with out a license and insurance, they supposlty cancel or revoked my license, but I never had a license in the first place, and I never knew about it.. then in 2015 i was able to fix my immigration status, i got my green card and when apply for a license and I got it no problem then barely 2 months ago I got pulled over by state trooper which he said to me I had my license revoked under 1 last name but good under both of my last names .. so I was surprised and now I have to assume my license is revoked even tho I never knew and I had my good license for 2 years now and had no problem until now.. What do I Do?
A: It is difficult to understand the situation from that description. You can check the status of your Minnesota drivers license by entering the number on a webpage of the Minnesota Department of Public Safety. If you are charged with a crime similar to Driving After Revocation (or Suspension or Cancellation) (DAR, DAS, or DAC) then it's a good idea to get a court appearance date and show up to contest it. When you do, be sure to have a valid Drivers License by that date, if at all possible. A conviction for DAR or the like will trigger an additional license revocation of at least 30 days. Being represented by a defense lawyer can make a big difference.
