Hermitage, TN asked in Child Support for Tennessee

Q: I have a two part question. If my child starts a job at sixteen or drops out does child support stop? Asking for bf.

He has a sixteen years old daughter. She just told him she has dropped out. We explain that you can't just drop out at 16. You can be homeschooled. Found out from a family member that she isnt being home-schooled. Just working or at home. Does child support drop if she's in homeschool or isn't going to school? I'm not sure if that's even legal. I thought you had to have a basic teaching diploma. Plus she has a job at Burger King. Does that effect him paying as much. He pays child support and provides insurance.

A: No, he has to at least pay child support until she is 18. Then, if she is not in school, he can asked to be relieved of child support. He should also be concerned about truancy issues if she is not attending school.
