Antioch, TN asked in Car Accidents for Tennessee

Q: Does hitting a sign while dogging wildlife make an at fault accident?

I had 3 deer jump out in front of me the other day. I missed the deer luckily but I take my passenger side mirror off and deep scrape marks down my doors. I'm a CDL driver so I don't want to use insurance if it's gonna be an at fault collision. No damage to sign.

A: This should not be considered an "at fault" accident. But insurance carriers for CDL licensed drivers don't always react / respond the way car insurers do. So- Contact your agent-- be sure to ask your agent if this will impact your rates or if the company is the type of company that might negatively impact your coverage or cancel you for this. Another issue will be whether you have had other claims within a window of time. Ask your agent what time period the company looks at to rate drivers.

A: Signs can be pretty expensive. If you were avoiding wildlife it shouldn't be at fault.

Attorney Wright is right--talk to your agent.
