Q: If I make 21 this month and I want to be adopted, what are the necessary steps? Do my parents need to be married?
My mom tried to allow my step father to adopt me when I was younger. However, my biological father would not sign over his rights. Now that I am going to be 21 do I still need his consent? If not what are the steps my step father and I need to take and what all does the adoption intel?
A: As an adult, you don't need your father's permission. By the way, you are an adult at 18, not 21. You and your parents need to hire an adoption attorney.
A: No your biological father will not have to consent. An attorney that handles adoptions should be consulted. Give me a call and I'll be happy to discuss the process and potential costs further.
