Q: Can a male victim of domestic violence sue his abuser for Physical and Emotional attacks?

Physical and Emotional Attacks resulting in continuing trauma, mental anguish, pain and suffering. Lost jobs, lost job opportunities, lost wages, and lost potential income. Lost friends and family members from stalking, cyber bullying, malicious email, texting and letter writing by the abuser. Legal fees including Attorney fees, court expenses, travel and lodging relating to constant legal harassment over a 5 year period, including three false accusations for felony charges, resulting in damaging stains on record which will necessitate future legal fees to repair. Malicious attempts to stifle career by stealing computer, briefcase with notes, and smashing victim’s cell phone before important meetings and presentations. Expenses related to the need to enroll in therapy to repair damage from emotional abuse. Therapy consists of individual and group counseling focusing on the needs of male victims of domestic violence. Damages here would be loss of work, loss of income, travel expenses.

A: Your question went out to the family law attorneys when it should have gone to the personal injury attorneys. Try posting it again without emphasizing the domestic violence issue, more along the lines of "Can I sue someone for physically attacking me and inflicting emotional trauma, causing....." I imagine you can find an attorney to file suit but I'm not sure that you can prove your damages. That's why I suggest that this go to the personal injury attorneys. Or you could just consult with one in person. I believe many PI attorneys offer free consultations.
