Q: if our lease says yes to pets, does landlord have to hold up to agreement?
Our landlord put in our lease that we could have pets after 3-6 months of resisiding in the home. It has come to time and now she is refusing to let us have pets. Landlord is fiance’s Grandma and she said that the pet decision was based off of us getting married and being engaged. We called off the wedding and now she says we can’t have pets. But the engagement/wedding is not in the lease. All the lease says is must reside in the home for 3-6 months.
A: The lease agreement governs. If your lease agreement states that you can have pets then you can have pets. One party cannot unilaterally change your contract.
