A: Your question is not clear- strictly speaking , the term "child support" generally refers to a sum of money, a fixed amount of dollars, which is usually paid monthly ( but can also be paid weekly or bi-weekly , or in really any interval that the parties agree on). Under Tennessee law, this amount is determined by a computer program which takes into account the gross income of both parents and the number of days each parent has with the child ( but there are other factors as well). One parent pays the child support to the primary residential parent, and the primary residential parent has the discretion on how to spend it: for food, or the electric bill, or clothes or school supplies.
