Ann Arbor, MI asked in Traffic Tickets for Missouri

Q: What is the best course of action for a ticket for 31 mph over a 60 mph limit? It requires a court appearance.

I do not live in Missouri. I was passing through when I was pulled over in St Charles, MO. I will not be able to come back to take care of the ticket.

A: The outcome depends a lot on which court your case is being prosecuted in. For that high a speed, I assume it's in St. Charles County Circuit Court, and the judge in the traffic division in that court is not going to agree to probation (and the prosecutor will not amend your ticket to a non-moving violation), so your only option is to hire an attorney to convince the judge to let you plead guilty with no jail time and no court appearance required.

If you don't take care of this ticket, the court will issue a warrant for your arrest.
