Q: My uncle died in January in Tennessee. He never married or had kids. How do I find out who his assets went to?

A: I would start by checking the local probate records in the county where he resided at the time of this death. If he made a will, that should be filed there and even if he did not have a will, there would be a record of the administration of his estate in that county.

A: If there is no Probate Administration, then you can perform a Title Search in whatever Counties he may have owned real property. If he owned property, then the Trustee will be looking for Taxes to be paid. If there was a Deed of Trust, the Lender will want his payments but has noone to notify of Acceleration or Foreclosure. You may also call whatever Insurance Companies he might have had a Policy with.
