Cookeville, TN asked in Criminal Law for Tennessee

Q: My bf got convicted of a stat rape charge in 2000. He just got arrested for violation of sexual registry.

She was 16& he was 20. All my research Ive done online showed that if the level of offense was a mitigated stat rape charge, then those were the ONLY ones that were not required to register. I have saved where this is in TN law. If the level of offense had been ruled a standard or above, then yes he would have had to register. How can I prove this? Please help me. I just found out I am going to be a new mom and I am four months pregnant with his baby. We were so excited and then this happened. He is being held in Haywood county tn jail on a $10,000 bond. I do not have $1000 to get him out on bond either. They reset his case for december 4th at 1:30 pm. I've wrote him letters, but that's all I can do bc I have no money & nobody that can help me. Im out here trying to do the best I can. I just really want him home for Christmas. Waking up alone & pregnant is just awful. My man is a good man.

A: The best advice I could give you is to hire him an attorney immediately. It is a serious charge against him and would not be best for him to represent himself.
