Hyattsville, MD asked in Civil Litigation for Pennsylvania

Q: Can she take me to court?

I was living with a friend who was renting to own but she defaulted on rent so it went to month to month. She took my money I gave her towards rent and never paid it. She then moved out without any notice. Well I went to the landlord and he signed a new lease in my name...now she is taking me to court to return her house to her cuz it was taken out from under her. Can she do this?

A: Anyone can sue anybody in court for anything. The question is, do they have a good case?

From the few details you've shared, it sounds like her case -- if any -- would be against your landlord, and not you. If she files an action in court, however, you'll have to go to court and tell your side of things to the judge. Don't miss the court date or she'll get a default judgment against you for your failure to appear!

I also see that you're asking your question from Maryland. If this matter is occurring in Maryland, you should pose your question in the Maryland law section instead, not the Pennsylvania section. Best of luck to you.
